Reflection on Father Parent's thoughts:
What does “living in the present moment” mean? AA makes extensive and successful use of this “one day at a time” philosophy. But for the Christian who wants to deepen their faith, there is more to it.
The present moment is God’s now, when a connection is established between what I am currently experiencing and the grace that God offers me in this very moment. God constantly offers me His grace. But the connection between what I am experiencing and my acceptance of His grace depends on my personal freedom, on my choices. I can accept or refuse this grace that God offers me in this present moment, which He calls “divine.” This grace is there for me in abundance if I am willing to accept it and welcome it.
When I welcome it, this grace of God flows through the positivity I choose to cultivate, enabling me to become a source of love.
In the Psalms, this takes the form of praise. If I want to make myself capable of welcoming God’s positive grace in the here and now, I must begin to practice praise unceasingly. My heart, thus turned toward God in each of my “nows,” will become a bearer of charity and love in all circumstances. It is an attitude to practise; it is a world to discover. We must persevere in it.
